"Shut up and Write" sessions for PhD students

As a PhD student it can sometimes be difficult to find time and space for writing - whether it is time for writing on your thesis, an article, a proposal, etc.

This spring The PhD School at The Faculty of Humanities and TEACH, The Teaching and Learning Unit at UCPH South Campus, arrange four joint structured "Shut up & Write" sessions for PhD students at the faculty every second week from April to June.

By participating in "Shup up & Write" you achieve concentrated time set aside for your writing and you achieve the inspiration to write when others are writing.

Idea and content

You write together with other PhD students on your writing project for three intervals of 45 min. and in between breaks of 15 min. The idea is to alternate between working intensively and taking breaks together.

Programme

9.00: Shut up & Write opens. You may set your personal writing goals for the morning (optional).
9.15-10.00: Writing. With no email/internet/mobile during writing sessions.
10.00-10.15: Break. You then have time to get more coffee/tea, have a conversation with the other participants, check your email, etc.
10.15-11.00: We start writing again.
11.00-11.15: Break.
11.15-12.00: Writing.

Remember that writing is not just writing. Writing is also noting, mind mapping, visualizing, editing, organizing, (re)reading, talking, thinking, brainstorming, scaffolding, revising, outlining.
